Gunner Palace
Jenson Hagen
Gunner Palace is an awesome first hand account of the Iraq war. The film follows along 400 American soldiers stationed in one of Saddam Hussein's palaces. But there is such limited opportunity to view it. The movie passed through Portland a couple of months ago at one movie theater and that was it.
I just got an email that it can now be ordered online at Amazon, or at Wal-Mart, Target, Borders, Barnes & Nobles, Best Buy, and Blockbuster. Maybe try to not buy it at Wal-Mart, though. We've given enough money to foreign countries this year.
Watch the movie!

God forbid we buy a product from another country. Especially one that is 10 times poorer than ours. You liberals make no sense to me.

I rented it from netflix last month.
Overall I would give it a good not great rating. It was really filmed during the first year of the occupation before things really started to heat up and get dire. But it is an excellent window into the life of an infantry unit. Actually I think it was an artillery unit but they were working as infantry.

It was a good movie-- lots of time given to the soldiers telling their stories. Lots of ride-along footage as they conduct raids on houses, talk to Iraqis, etc. It just gives a small sense of what these soldiers' experience over there was like, without pushing any particular agenda. For that reason alone, everyone in America should see this (or a similar) movie. We have been far too shielded from the reality of what is going on and what our soldiers are going through.
As for Chris's comment--buying from Wal-Mart isn't supporting a poorer foreign country. It's lining the pockets of Wal-Mart as they exploit American and Chinese workers. And hey, thanks to the fiscal irresponsibility of Bush and company, driving us further and further into debt, China practically own the U.S.

Ok, I agree about Bush & Co. driving us into debt. But lets be honest about the issue regarding the Chinese. Which administration sold us to the Chinese?? Hint- its not the current one.
