2006: The Money Race

The AP has the story on the money race for Governor.

Here's the quick rundown on hard cash:

$472,000 Ron Saxton (R)
$413,000 Ted Kulongoski (D)
$275,000 Kevin Mannix (R)
$80,000 Jason Atkinson (R)
$22,000 Pete Sorenson (D)
$14,000 Vicki Walker (D)

There is, of course, plenty of spin about pledges and what-not from all corners.

Two key items on GOP big money men:

[Saxton's] largest being a $100,000 donation from retired forest products industry executive Bill Swindells....

Mannix has been raising money steadily from GOP backers across the state. His largest donation so far is $40,000 from Portland auto dealer Bob Lanphere...

Discuss.

Isn't Ron Saxton the former PPS school board member (chair?) who whined and whined about NO MONEY for schools until he ran for Governor?

    Thought so.

If you take hypocrisy out of the GOP platform, all you have left is a nice clean piece of paper that you can write the grocery list on.

All I know is that I'm not buying my next car from Bob Lanphere.

Looks like Pete needs a little help. He's going to have to go Tom Potter if he's going to get into this thing.

All this is good evidence of the need for fundamental campaign finance reform. What we do not need is state policy crafted to please Bill Swindells or Bob Lanphere.
