Portland man who faced 7.5 years in prison for stabbing man at Clatsop County rave party acquitted of all charges

Oregonian:

A 27-year-old Portland man who faced 7.5 years in prison for stabbing a man during a fight at a rave party in Clatsop County last year, was acquitted of all charges Monday.

Scott Robert Brandon, who surrendered to police on August 1, 2011 following a fight at a rave party off Wolf Creek Road on July 30, was originally charged with attempted murder.

A grand jury later indicted him on one count of first degree assault, and one count of second degree assault. If convicted, he faced 90 months in prison on the first degree assault charge, a Measure 11 offense, and 70 months on the second degree assault charge.

[Defense attorney] Short said District Attorney Josh Marquis tried to sway the jury by showing photographs of Brandon dressed in goth clothing at the time of the rave. In court, Brandon--who served five years in the U.S. Air Force and is soon to graduate with a philosophy degree from Portland State University--wore a suit and tie.

“His appearance had no relevance to this case,’’ Short said.
