Portland's mayoral hopefuls made their case before a cross-section of Portland's software community Monday in a debate that featured everything from creative uses for mobile apps in government to the candidates' geek bona fides.

State Rep. Jefferson Smith and former City Commissioner Charlie Hales addressed the crowd of more than 100 at the offices of Portland-based Elemental Technologies and likely dozens more following the online livestream of the event.
