OR-Sen: Jeff Merkley (D) Calls For Congress To Update Our Nation's Internet Privacy Laws

DailyKos:

Received this e-mail today from our favorite Senator:

Friends – 1986 seems like an eternity ago. I was working in Washington D.C. for the Congressional Budget Office, analyzing nuclear policies and programs. Ronald Reagan was President. And Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick topped the charts. It’s also when the laws that govern law enforcement access to your online content were written – outdated laws still in place today. Please join me: Sign my petition and tell Congress its time to update our nation’s Internet privacy laws: http://www.supportinternetprivacy.com/...  As things currently stand, any federal government agency can access your old emails without your consent or even a search warrant. I think it’s a ludicrous violation of our right to privacy, and a telling sign that our laws are painfully out-of-date.

Join me, and let’s demand that Congress swiftly update our Internet privacy laws: http://www.supportinternetprivacy.com/... The Internet is a great source of innovation, entrepreneurship, and expanding freedom. And the laws that  govern the Internet need to keep up – and protect our privacy. Please sign this petition today: http://www.supportinternetprivacy.com/... Thanks, Senator Jeff Merkley
