With ballots out, candidates for 5th Congressional district meet in crucial televised debate

With ballots already out, candidates for Oregon's 5th Congressional district met in a televised debate Thursday night, sponsored by The Oregonian and KGW (8). Democratic incumbent Kurt Schrader and Republican challenger Scott Bruun spent much of the evening trying to appeal to the district's moderate sensibilities in what polls show to be a heated race. The candidates addressed topics ranging from health care to defense spending to the Bush-era tax cuts.
