Ben Cannon named to top education post

Portland Business Journal:

Gov. John Kitzhaber on Thursday named Ben Cannon to a new position overseeing the higher education.

As executive director of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (known as the HECC) Cannon will oversee eight universities, 17 community colleges and 67 private colleges and universities.

Cannon is a former state representative, Rhodes Scholar and middle school teacher. He currently serves as Gov. Kitzhaber's education policy adviser.
