Police arrest District Attorney Dean Gushwa

East Oregonian:

PENDLETON — Pendleton police Friday arrested Umatilla County District Attorney Dean Gushwa based of charges of official misconduct.

The East Oregonian wasn’t able to reach Pendleton police officials, but Umatilla County Sheriff John Trumbo confirmed the arrest. Trumbo, who oversees the county jail in Pendleton, said police arrested Gushwa on a probable cause affidavit based on the five charges of official misconduct the Oregon Department of Justice has charged against Gushwa.

Trumbo also said jail staff booked Gushwa and then released him.

“There’s no reason for him to be in jail,” Trumbo said.

The DOJ has accused Gushwa of using his office to obtain sex and of trying to cover it up. The DOJ charged Gushwa on Wednesday. Official misconduct is a misdemeanor in Oregon.
