You know, it's hard enough to get things done in our Senate with only 45 Republicans terrified of losing a primary election to a tea party challenger. But the fact is, the Koch brothers are willing to spend nearly $300 million this year alone to -- among other things -- replace strong progressive voices in the Senate with the same types of irresponsible ideologues they're using to keep the GOP in line. And that's exactly what they're doing to my partners Jeff Merkley and Mark Udall. Senator Merkley of Oregon has been a great fighter in the Senate and a great partner with me on the Budget Committee, making sure that our economy works for working families. He's been there every step of the way to help fight to raise the minimum wage, make college more affordable, and extend unemployment insurance.

It's no surprise that the Koch brothers are gunning for Senator Udall's Colorado Senate seat. Mark's a leader on campaign finance reform, as well as helping build the clean energy economy -- and that's why they're backing his tea party opponent. And Mark and I are fighting to make sure that same sex spouses don't see their social security benefits cut just because the state where they live refuses to recognize their marriage. Without these two, the Senate would grind to a halt on almost every issue that's important to working families. And that's a risk we just can't take.
