97 challengers running for the Oregon Legislature: Who are they? Why do they do it?

Will Rasmussen, Joelle Davis and Gerritt Rosenthall are all pushing to win the Democratic nod for House District 37. The winner will land a job that pays $21,612 annually, plus expenses and benefits. While it might be nice to called "Senator" or "Representative," why would anyone put themselves through this process?
