Blumenauer calls for more U.S. cities to buy Portland-made streetcars

Portland Business Journal:

Oregon's commitment to streetcars — producing them, adding lines that generate economic activity — played a central role in a comprehensive Washington Post story that ran last week.

The highlight, which appeared far down in the story and was pointed out by Willamette Week, is this: Rep. Earl Blumenauer called on the U.S. government to order 500 to 1,000 streetcars and give some U.S. companies the chance to make 50 or 100 each.

Those producers would likely include Clackamas's United Streetcar.
