Oregon kids could get their budget early this year

Despite its tumultuous start, the 2015 Oregon legislative session could be heading toward a smooth, and fast, resolution of a key lawmaking task.

House Speaker Tina Kotek and Senate President Peter Courtney said Monday they plan to bring forward the $7.2 billion K-12 schools budget. If all goes as planned, the budget could hit the floors of each chamber by the end of next week.

The leaders said they want a budget in place before the next economic and revenue forecast, which lands in May.
