Fundraiser update as showdown for Wu’s seat looms

KOIN:

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — State Sen. Suzanne Bonamici is leading the hunt for campaign cash in the race to replace former U.S. Rep. David Wu. Fundraising reports filed over the weekend show Bonamici's campaign has raised $600,000 in the latest fundraising quarter, boosted by a $200,000 loan from the candidate. The strong fundraising gives Bonamici an advantage over her two main rivals for the Democratic nomination in the final three weeks before the special primary election. Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian raised $183,000 and state Rep. Brad Witt took in $60,000 during the quarter, which ended Sept. 30. On the Republican side, businessman Rob Cornilles reported raising just over $500,000. None of his Republican rivals raised more than $5,000. Mitt Romney leads Republican candidates for president with $176,000 raised in Oregon. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
