Walkout, assembly and march planned by Occupy PSU group

KOIN:

After yesterday's meandering Occupy Portland march through downtown, today a walkout, assembly and another march is scheduled by an Occupy group affiliated with Portland State University.Occupy PSU organizers said they planned their noon-time events in solidarity with the larger movements locally and elsewhere. They call for all students, faculty, staff and other employees to convene."History has written extensively about the role that colleges and universities have played in promoting social change, and so we, as Occupy PSU, issue a national call for students, faculty, and staff to act together in order to nourish the evolution of the Occupy movement," said the group in a release published on the Occupy Portland website. There is no telling how many, if any, will walkout and march but the university issued a release to students issuing safety and caution, and the Portland Police Bureau is also involved.Police issued a map of the expected march route, which will head from campus north on Broadway before cutting over on Salmon, then back south on Main and eventually to the campus urban plaza on Montgomery.Yesterday's march was improvisational. After a noon meeting at Pioneer Courthouse Square, a portion of the Occupy Portland movement began a zigzag march through downtown Portland that took them through a bank, inside a mall and eventually to City Hall where they called for the mayor's resignation.Along their route the marchers were escorted by Portland police officers in riot gear and on bicycles.Early Tuesday morning, Occupy Portland members asked for an apology from Mayor Sam Adams due to what they called excessive force used during the weekend eviction.
