Kitzhaber: Lariviere decision should be no surprise

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber said the decision to not renew University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere's contract has nothing to do with an "ongoing difference of opinion," but results from a series of incidents that "eroded trust and confidence."

Kitzhaber issued a lengthy statement Saturday explaining the decision, refuting Lariviere's claim that differences of opinion over the future of the university were to blame.

"While the timing of the board’s action on Dr. Richard Lariviere’s employment contract may come as a surprise to some, the possible decision to terminate his contract should not, given his record," Kitzhaber said...
