Cornilles, Bonamici take on job creation in latest debate

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The two candidates vying to claim Oregon's 1st District congressional seat have sparred in their latest debate about job creation, Social Security and who's telling the truth to voters.Republican Rob Cornilles and Democrat Suzanne Bonamici met Tuesday night for a televised debate. Ballots go out Friday for the Jan. 31 special election to replace former Rep. David Wu. He vacated the seat last August amid allegations he made an unwanted sexual advance on an 18-year-old woman.Tualatin businessman Cornilles asked his opponent to name any jobs she created using her own money. Bonamici said she has hired many employees as part of a law firm and at the Oregon Legislature. She resigned from the state Senate to run for Congress.On Social Security, Bonamici said she would look to such things as higher taxes on the wealthy to keep the system solvent.
