Welcoming Wal-Mart, Portland-style
Over dinner at Jake’s Grill at The Governor Hotel the other night, our waitress gestured happily toward The Galleria across the street.
After years of disuse, the beautiful and historic building is being remade into one of a handful of urban “City Target” stores.
Our waitress was thrilled at the prospect. She's in good company. Target is getting the red carpet treatment from Portland’s business and civic leaders. Portland Mayor Sam Adams admitted he was so enthused by Target's new urban model that he "stalked" Target officials to make sure one landed here...
