Candidates vie to unseat Kurt Schrader

Salem Statesman Journal:

Two Republicans are seeking the right in the May 15 primary to challenge two-term Democrat Kurt Schrader of Canby for the seat, as was the case in 2010.

Both candidates have business backgrounds, both have similar priorities — and neither has held elected office.

But unlike 2010, when then-state Rep. Scott Bruun of West Linn was tapped by the national party to make the race, neither Fred Thompson of Salem nor Karen Bowerman of Lake Oswego have so far raised the cash needed to mount a serious effort against Schrader in the fall.
