Markos & Jerome Arrive to Help Topple the Speaker

MarkosBlueOregon readers likely know the two mega-blogs in the progressive universe -- DailyKos.com and MyDD.com. The founders of those two blogs -- Jerome Armstrong and Markos Moulitsas Zuniga -- are coming to Oregon next Monday.

Markos and Jerome are on a book tour promoting their (excellent) book Crashing the Gate, but they're taking a break to help Rob Brading topple Oregon House Speaker Karen Minnis. It's time for the culture of corruption in Salem to come to an end.

Why is Rob Brading taking on Karen Minnis? In his own words...

"It's like we really don't have a representative. When you look at her record it seems like Karen Minnis might need a roadmap to find the 49th district. She uses her power and spends her time serving big corporations and powerful executives from Houston, Manhattan, California, Delaware, Atlanta and New Jersey, who have all bankrolled her campaigns. But her mistaken priorities in the legislature means she forgets all about the citizens who depend on her to do the right thing."

Can he win? Can he topple the Speaker? You bet he can.

But it's going to take plenty of volunteers and plenty of money. So get yourself to this here event -- and help Rob Brading topple Karen Minnis.

McMenamin's Kennedy School
5736 NE 33rd Ave, Portland
Monday, April 10 - 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

It's a $20 suggested donation -- either at the door, or online at Rob Brading for State Representative.

    Two things:

    1. There are likely going to be some other public events for those who cannot make it to the Kennedy School. Stay tuned -- we'll post in this space.

    2. Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with Rob Brading, his campaign, or his website -- except that I'm an enthusiastic supporter. Thanks for asking.

Yes, there may be other events, but for at least one, you'll need to RSVP and students will have first priority. But I may not post more on that ...

This Sunday, April 9th, Markos and Jerome will be at the Lucky Lab pub at 9:15 SE Hawthorne from 3:30-7:00pm. From there, they'll make their way across the river to a signing at Powell's from 7:30-9:30pm. Both of these events are free and open to the public to the best of my knowledge.

By the way, I just finished the book and it's really good. Not as much about blogs as one might think (a great read even for your non-geek progressive friends). It's more about what ails the Democratic Party in general. The overall concepts won't be new to those who have followed Markos and Jerome online, but the additional depth one gets from a book versus 500-word blog posts really backs up what they're saying with insightful data and anecdotes.

It's Markos Moulitsas, or Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, not Markos Zuniga (so why is Zuniga at the end? It's a cultural ordering thing).

And just to be clear, Markos founded DailyKos, while Jerome founded myDD.

And, once again, I miss being in Portland and being able to attend events like this. :-(

Who better to write and speak about the impending return of democracy to Amerikkka than a fellow Greek!

    Opa!

Good luck, Kos, and keep the faith. For all of us.

Jeffk -- thanks for that. I've been baffled by the naming thing until now. It's fixed.
