Breaking News: Carol Voisin drops out; endorses Dan Carol

Here at BlueOregon HQ, we just received a note from Carol Voisin, dropping out of the race for DPO Chair:

After considerable self reflection and conversation with friends, I faced the fact that I need to take care of my health before running for DPO Chair. I recently had open eye surgery. A natural aging process caused a detached retina in my right eye. Because of the need for my eye to heal and the prospect of future surgery on it, I have chosen to withdraw from the race. To my supporters, I send my deep gratitude and respect. I will miss seeing you all.

Not only that, but she making an endorsement:

I have decided to publicly endorse Dan Carol. I do so for the following reasons:

* His 20 years of being a leader and innovator in politics
* He has worked inside and outside of the DPO
* His leadership experience does include local as well as national politics
* He has knocked on doors for candidates and advised the DNC & MoveOn
* His experience with and focus on campaigns is what the DPO needs.

All the best.
Carol Voisin

Of course, we all wish Carol a speedy recovery from her surgery.

I have nothing but respect for the way that Voisin ran her campaign for chair, especially in the way she (and her supporters) advocated for rural concerns in ways that did not exacerbate the rural-urban rift we hear so much about. Thank you, Carol, for your thoughtful engagement with the wonderful world of Oregon politics, and best wishes for improved health.

    Carol,

I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery and I also really appreciate having had the opportunity to get to know you better during this past election cycle. You have shown yourself to be a great leader with a refreshing mix of ambition, common sense and humility. I am looking forward to working with you over the next few years to get Democrats elected in every part of the State.

Carol - I hope this is only a minor setback.

From the time we took the walk around the edge of the golf course at Sunriver during the Oregon Summit in 2005, I knew that you were a good person for Oregon and the Democrats. I have worked with you at the Rural Retreat and on your two campaigns, and I hope to be able to work on a third in the future. We need the perspective you bring to the Party.

    You are already missed.
