Piling On

Paulie Brading

It's hard to resist piling on or chortling over today's newest revelations from Idaho regarding Sen. Larry Craig. Even harder is resisting ranting about Karl Rove's appearance on Fox News this morning (no, I didn't watch it) when he again tried to revise history. About a week ago Rove appeared on the Charlie Rose show and made this claim. You know, the claim that the, "Bush administration had been "opposed" to Congress holding the vote authorizing the president to use military force in Iraq just a few weeks prior to the 2002 elections because "we thought it was too political." To wit, Ari Fleisher stated in the Washington Post that Karl has his facts wrong. Rove continues to spin in his own alternate universe. Lucky for Democrats, the GOP has been crumbling since 2006. The party of limited government, individual freedom and lower taxes is now the party of teary eyed resignations, future lobbying jobs and seriously tarnished reputations. It's about this time I begin to picture Sen. Smith and Rep. Walden inside a fort that resembles The Alamo. Many Republicans are just plain de(moral)ized.

Instead I will pile on the late-season slump of the Ducks, once ranked No. 2 in the nation. Or maybe I should pile on the Beavers who limped out of the gate at the beginning of the season. The game wore me out because of its intensity. Stale chips and cold pizza still litter the kitchen..can't wait for next year's Civil War because next year it will be back in our house and we have season tickets.

So the male prostitute that brought down Rev. Tim Haggard also had sex with Senator Larry Craig?

Seems to me that Larry & Tim are made for each other. If only the male prostitute had been running a dating service instead!

The party of limited government, individual freedom and lower taxes...

Throw in sound fiscal policy and a dose of compassion and I'm sold. Sadly, if any of the above virtues are at all important to a voter they have nowhere to turn but toward the Libertarian party, the occasional Independent candidate or maverick Republicans like Ron Paul. Your average Republican still talks a good game on lower taxes but doesn't appear to have the good sense to curb spending at the same time. Am I rambling here? Yeah, thought so.

I was amazed to find that the FOX interviewer evidently called Rove on his distortions. I knew then what a cynic I can be...My first thought was "I wonder what FOX has up its sleeve"..

You said it, Oregonian37. We are all acutely aware of the EXTREME right-wing bias of Fox News and know that the only thing close to fair & balanced journalism comes from Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! or Portland Indymedia. Keep sipping the Kool Aid, my friend.

Full disclosure, I'm no fan of the Fox News cable network but am not so blinded that I cannot see the liberal bias conveyed by other networks. For my money, The News Hour With Jim Lehrer is your best bet for unbiased, in depth television news reporting. Progressives call it conservative, conservatives consider it liberal- sounds fair & balanced to me.

Now it's "Brian". Just another conservative troll using a well-known first name without any other identifier -- like his/her previous doppelgangers Beth, Sharon, Wendy, Neil, Dan, Richard, Ginger, Pat, Sue, Charles, Rose, Dolly, Becky, and Melody.

    Ignore the troll.

Yeah, the "liberal bias" comment kinda gave it away.

<h2>"like his/her previous doppelgangers Beth, Sharon, Wendy, Neil, Dan, Richard, Ginger, Pat, Sue, Charles, Rose, Dolly, Becky, and Melody."</h2>

As a NAV / independent thinker who isn't beholden to any political party for MY paycheck (ie Kari's def of a troll), I have worked long and hard to be recognized as a troll. My off topic, personal attacks, and general snide comments should have earned me a spot with the rest of the "firstnamers w/o any last names".

    What gives, Kari?

Is this "When Kari forgot Harry"?

I think they made the scandal about being gay. I don't like that people have to be "outed" by some idiots who think it's their duty to say who is gay and who is not. People have a right to privacy. However, I kept hearing from some of the liberal left--I'm part of the liberal center that believes in fiscal responsiblity--that it's hypocrisy not to "come out of the closet." Frankly speaking, I don't care about whether my elected officials like men or women for romance. I care about whether or not they are effective in the jobs we pay them to do.

Let me add, this outing of politicians and celebrities in 2007 is like the dirty tricks those Republicans who don't like gays would use against opponents. It's sick and disgusting behavior.

It's not hypocrisy to stay in the closet. It's hypocrisy to be a gay-bashing wackjob while you're secretly actually gay.

You'll note that there aren't any Democrats being outed this way. Probably for two reasons: #1 It's generally OK to be a gay Democrat, so more are already out, and #2 It's unlikely that closeted gay Democrats are spending their political lives bashing gay people, so there's no hypocrisy there.

Ha, ha, Kari, it's plain to see that you are not gay [you must know some gay men though?]. Larry Craig is definitely not what Rev. Haggard was hot for.

Larry Craig is definitely not what Rev. Haggard was hot for.

    EEEK!

I'm not sure that Larry Craig is what ANYONE was "hot for," even Mrs. Craig.

The whole Craig thing is truly "just desserts" for hypocisy. What if it had been an open gay Dem? Most people who had a future vote or influence in that person's political future would have shrugged and said "So what?" OR "I thought he had more class than that; My Gawd, the Minneapolis Men’s Room?!"

There is a real opportunity here in Idaho. DSCC ought to be jumping in there and helping Larry Rocco since (as far as I know) he is not facing a Dem in a primary and let Oregon Dems sort out who will be the Democratic nominee.

Steve and Jeff are more than capable of calling Smith's failures, shortcomings, and prevarications to the voting public's recognition over the next six months. Any money DSCC wants to spend here ought to be spent in Idaho. After May 20 they can send OUR Oregon Senate nominee all the money they went within federal law.

In the meantime, I sure as hell ain't sending 'em (or the DCCC) any money until they show a commitment to "butt out" of local contested party races.
