Very funny! Minor correction though: The Assault Weapon ban wasn't repealed, it just wasn't reauthorized.

"Those that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it";

Liberal thinkers are a bane to the Patriot.

The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
Quotes by Cesare Beccaria. Author of "Crimes and Punishment.

I believe that the people trying to take away guns are out of their minds. In our society hunting is a way of life and a great hobby for many people. I know many people who would kill just to keep their guns. It isnt fair to the majority of people who own guns and dont ever harm a single person. People are trying to take their guns and they never did anything. It is a big mistake people make to blame the guns for murders because it isnt the guns that pull their own triggers it is the people behind them, so why punish everyone for something that one person is responsible for. I believe that we have our gun rights for a reason so let us keep them so we can provide meat to our families and feel safe if something were to happen that we would need protection

Just finished the excellent book on correlation and statistics by economist Steven Leavitt, called Freakonomics. One of the fun facts:

What's more dangerous: a swimming pool or a gun? When it comes to children, there is no comparison: a swimming pool is 100 times more deadly.

In 1997 alone (the last year for which data are available), 742 children under the age of 10 drowned in the United States last year alone. Approximately 550 of those drownings -- about 75 percent of the total -- occurred in residential swimming pools. According to the most recent statistics, there are about six million residential pools, meaning that one young child drowns annually for every 11,000 pools.

About 175 children under the age of 10 died in 1998 as a result of guns. About two-thirds of those deaths were homicides. There are an estimated 200 million guns in the United States. Doing the math, there is roughly one child killed by guns for every one million guns.

Thus, on average, if you both own a gun and have a swimming pool in the backyard, the swimming pool is about 100 times more likely to kill a child than the gun is.

To be fair, he also notes that a study showing a correlation between increased legal gun ownership and decreased gun crime has not been supported by peer review........

Also BTW: the term Assault Weapon is a made up term that includes whatever nightmares that those unfamiliar with said machinery can dream up.

And, of course, a car is more dangerous than either a swimming pool or a gun. In fact, cars are the leading cause of death among people ages 1-20.

Yes, let's make the guns illegal, so the terrorists can't use them. Wait...isn't it illegal to hi-jack an airline and crash it into a building? Hmmm...that didn't seem to stop the terrorists, did it? Guess they don't care what our laws are. Maybe the libs should come up with a better reason to ban my rightfully owned guns.

wasn't more security added in airports in the hope that it will prevent terrorists from hijacking airplanes? but i supposed we should wait until terrorists start using easily attainable assault weapons on us before we do anything about it, right? yeah, great idea.

I'm pretty sure this thought doesn't run through criminals' heads: "gee, I could accomplish my crime more effectively if I had a gun, but *sigh of disappointment* they're illegal..."
Terrorists don't need a ban repealed in order to get their hands on assault weapons.

Since we're on a roll, why don't we ban cars too, they can be pretty leathal.

EXAMPLE

Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, is charged with nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause bodily injury. Police say he drove an SUV through a crowd of students gathered at The Pit. Six people were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Three others refused treatment at the scene.
Derek Poarch, chief of the university's police department, confirmed Saturday that Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, told investigators he wanted to "avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world."

Guns are a right, and they are a right that no one will ever take away from me.
