I'll be drinking at the Hedge House

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

HedgehouseNext time I'm thinking about getting a beer (or three) with a friend, I know where I'm going. I'm going to the Hedge House -- that's the Division Street home of Portland's New Old Lompoc Brewing.

Why?

Because when a rowdy group of assholes started in on the gay-bashing, the bar's staff promptly chucked 'em out the door.

Read the story at Just Out's blog.

I've been there before - they've got great beer.

But next time I visit, I'll be sure to tell 'em: I'm here because you did the right thing.

I hope you'll do the same.

Lompoc's sweet, and they may still be pouring the Star of India--a wonderful fresh-hop ale. At the original site, they show all the Red Sox games, so you see that they are true and good. And if you need any other reason, the Hedge House has a Pix right next to it, as does--rather unexpectedly--their Northern outlet on Williams, the Fifth Quadrant.

However, nothing's perfect in this world. They serve beer in cheater pints (boo!). Encourage them to ramp up to an Honest Pint, and then they get my full seal of approval.

Their food is extremely boring and they're full of awful hipsters. For Lompoc I'd much rather go to Oaks Bottom or Produce Row. But, glad they're worthwhile people.

Thanks for the tip! We'll be happy to go and drink the sweet nectar of justice.

That's great that they did that.

If I drank, I'd be sure to stop in there and have a drink and let them know that's why I am there.

IF I am on the area and looking for libations, I will keep this in mind and give a thumbs up for their doing the right thing by being a paying customer.

And the owner is from Pittsburgh, is a die hard Steeler fan and serves Iron City on Sunday mornings. What a great guy!

Of course he can't hold a candle to the A&L for Stiller ambiance.

Not my neighborhood, too bad. But I'll toast them from here in Lane County, for bringing a bit more good than evil into the world with their actions.

It's little decisions like that, all over the world, that result in meaningful change.

    Michael,

You ok guy? You seem a little bi-polar today. You know they might have been lame that day because they wanted to encourage you to not visit them again or they could have had an off day. Regardless you should try not to be so negative. I have gotten a buzz there. It was pretty cool and the dykes there dug the chick I was with.......LOL

Don't be suprised if those gay bashers sue the Hedge House for violating thier "freedom of expression" under the Oregon constitution. It seems to be the in thing to do in Oregon these days.

The staff did the right thing, but I sure can not tell them that because I do not drink. Please give them my congrats on a job well done

I'm here to report back that Kari was just spotted at the Hedgehouse having a fantastic conversation with their fabulous staff.

Wow... fine upstanding citizens AND owned by a Steeler fan? What more could anyone reasonably ask for?

Seriously... I'll echo Jenni. I don't normally drink but I am a very long-time Steeler fan and I heartily approve of the bar's staff being good citizens.

Thanks, Mike. I recommend the Centennial IPA.

    Well done.

But cheater's pints AND Red Sox games?

If I'm ever up in the area and in need of a pint (even a cheater's pint) of micro brew I'll be certain to stop in. Regards to an establishment that has high standards AND backs them up!

My friend said to no one in particular, “This is not a sport’s bar.”

    hmmm?

Michael Glad to see another Oaks Bottom fan. What a wonderful job they've done with that space. Have you ever been there on Wednesday night when the irish singers arive?
