The phone call Greg Walden never made (video)
Over at the DPO, they've picked up on the point I made two weeks ago about Greg Walden's role in the million-dollar fraud at the NRCC, where he was the audit committee chairman.
As I wrote then, he could have been a hero by simply picking up the phone.
Not only did Greg Walden fail to meet with the auditing firm before they hired them, he failed to meet with them for three straight years, and when he tried - oh, how he tried - to get a meeting... he never bothered to pick up the phone and call direct.It's a telephone, Greg. Just pick it up and dial.

What gets me is that Walden runs as a pro-business Republican and yet he fails the basic business test. It wasn't just that he didn't make the phone call, it was he didn't take his responsibility seriously. There were a lot of ways to find this out if he made any reasonable effort. Frankly he should resign out of the sheer shame of failing to do his duty.

when the call comes at 3AM, will Greg Walden be ready? Or will he ask, "What is that annoying, intermittent ringing sound from that odd shaped red box over there?"

My question is -- will Walden be impeccably dressed, like Clinton was in the ad? I mean, really? That's what she wears at 3 am? That's what she would wear to the Mountain Shop's pajamas sale?
But back to Walden - lots of managers place too much trust in well-paid consultants. It's a problem, when everyone says "this person is the best" and they don't really know what they're doing. This was a prime, inexcusable example of mismanagement.

Screw the Governorship - What about us who live in the 2nd Congressional District and have to deal with Walden's votes in the Congress now! It's 2008 - there's an election this year! If you really don't want this guy as a Governor in the future spend some money over on the East side of the Cascades and boot him out of Congress this year.

Pete, I think you're going to have to take Jeff Merkley's name out of contention for the governorship in 2010.
You know, he'll be a year-and-a-half into his first Senate term by then. And the Wyden-Merkley-Bennett Healthy Americans Act will have been signed by President Obama.
