Less fundraising, more family. Donate to Darcy.

As I previously mentioned, Washington Democratic congressional candidate Darcy Burner's house burned to the ground on Tuesday.

By now, you probably know that Darcy is a rock star. A netroots hero. A candidate who came oh-so-close in 2006, despite running a grassroots campaign in a seat that the powers-that-be said that couldn't be won. A bright-red Republican seat; and she's running hard against the war and for our civil liberties.

What can we do to help? She's got a place to stay (family) and clothes (friends), and her family is OK (thank god).

But no matter who you are, when you lose EVERYTHING you own (even if it is, as Darcy says, "just stuff"), it's going to take a while to get your family back on its feet.

But she's running for Congress. And it's a race that's too important to walk away from now. So, what can we do to help?

Right now, Darcy has to raise $5000 a day just to keep up with the incumbent, Dave Reichert.

Markos at Daily Kos and Goldy at HorsesAss.org have asked the netroots to help Darcy get her life together. How can we help? By donating. By donating, we allow Darcy to replace call time with personal time; to replace talking to donors with talking to her five-year-old son (Henry, the hero.)

$150,000 would give her a month to get her family and her life back on track. And we're already past halfway there.

From HorsesAss:

This is more than just money, it is a gift of time and an outpouring of affection that has buoyed Darcy’s spirits just as the full impact of her loss finally started to sink in. The campaign tells me she has canceled her schedule at least through the end of the week and will reevaluate day by day after that.

So if you haven’t already, please give to Darcy so that she and her family have the time to heal, without giving up an inch in her race against Reichert.

From DailyKos:

One last point: Darcy is a huge netroots sensation because she is truly one of us -- a former Microsoft exec who is a geek at heart, and someone who has been with us on the war and FISA since she first started running in 2005. Some politicians can put up a facade or say the right things for the right audience, but there's no faking it when you've just run out of your burning house, seeing all your worldly possessions go up in flames as you frantically try to ensure your family is safe.

Look at the shirt she was wearing:

That's an HTML-style nerd joke for "end the war". Yeah, she's one of us.

When this campaign started, she was at $250,000 on ActBlue. The goal is $400,000. As I write this, she's at $343,596. Let's do it.

Donate to Darcy.

Too bad... she is going to lose her race after losing her house.

OK, troll, I'm doubling my donation.

I've kind of followed Darcy since she first ran and if I lived there I'd vote for her in a second. I've donated a couple of times (and may follow suit and donate again in honor of above-troll!).

P.S. Love the shirt! (I'm a bit weirded out by the fact that I understood what it meant before reading the explanation!)

Yea, I love the shirt. Now I have to add that to the "geek" related shirts I need - I also want the "code like a girl" shirt.

<h2>Met her at the presidential debates in Las Vegas this past fall. Not only were her outlooks on the current political situation progressive and inspiring she seemed to be a great person.</h2>
