Greg Walden's Smoke and Mirrors
U.S. Congressman R-Greg Walden in the 2nd District in Oregon voted NO on the extension of county payments on June 5th, 2008.
In the four months since Walden voted NO he's been running away from his vote. Now he's drafted a letter to Speaker Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and David Obey asking for a one-year extension of the county payments.
I read a press release from Walden's office on 9/22/08 in which he states, "Renewing the federal government's committment to rural America is not a partisan issue." Oh come on.....Greg Walden is playing politics to the hilt now, hoping that Democrats will not grant the extension so he can to blame them for not extending the county payments. Walden even convinced some 20+ members of the House to sign onto his letter sent to Pelosi.
Sunshine is the best disinfectent and what we need is scrutiny on every position Walden takes. Democrats are not to blame for the crisis in county funding. Walden is running for political cover. Does he actually believe he is rising above politics with his latest political manuver? Walden is seriously thinking of running for Governor in 2010. Let the sun shine in.

Unfortunately, very few people know of Naoh Lemas, much less anything about him. But I'll vote for him anyway.

Paulie, one can only hope you are not this disingenuous in your newly found position on the School Board.
How convenient for you to leave out WHY Walden voted no. He had good reason.
How convenient for you to leave out that the Timber Payments ARE currently in the Energy Tax Re-authorization Bill passed by the Senate 98-2 (and a bill Bush has agreed to sign even though he doesn't like some of it).
How convenient for you to leave out that Pelosi and company in the House have taken the Timber Payments out of their version of the Bill above and WILL NOT EVEN DISCUSS IT.
Walden is fighting to get it back into the House version and has the support of DeFazio and Wu. What about the others?
Really Paulie, enough with the intellectual dishonesty.

WASHINGTON — For the second time this week, the House has rejected a Senate-backed measure to extend a multiyear program of payments to rural counties hurt by federal logging cutbacks.
Democratic leaders rejected an attempt by Oregon lawmakers to add the measure to a package of tax breaks approved today.
Republican Representative Greg Walden of Oregon twice tried to add it.
But he and Democratic Representative Peter DeFazio have been blocked at every turn by Democratic leaders.
Walden says they are "pushing rural counties off a cliff."
He notes that the Senate has approved a four-year extension of the program, and President Bush has said he will sign the legislation.
Walden says he will try again with another bill later today.

Unfortunately, Walden is running in a district where the overwhelming majority of voters are robotic and vote for him on the basis of something Walden did for them. The fact that he has proved himself willing to shred the Constitution and screw people downstream from the Klamath Basin means nothing to them.
