  • No, dear readers, Washington County did not rip off Barack Obama's logo. They've had that logo for years. From the Forest Grove News-Times:
The Washington County logo, which features a sun rising over the wavy Tualatin plains, was created in 1986 by the county’s late graphic designer, Ron Talaga.

The Obama logo, which features similar circular symbolism but is cast in red, white and blue instead of the county’s tan and blue, was created for Obama’s presidential bid by a pair of Chicago-based graphic design firm. Though the county’s logo predates the Obama logo, no one’s crying plagiarism.

  • The folks behind WikiProject Oregon have been hard at work. There's now a Wikipedia article about every single member of the Oregon State Senate. They're filling in lots of gaps about Oregon's history, politics, culture, and more. Learn more about how to get involved here.

  • In Gresham, firefighter and community leader Greg Matthews is taking on Republican incumbent Rep. John Lim. And while he's hitting the doors with dozens of supporters at a time, John Lim is whining and complaining. Lim and the Republicans have filed complaints with the City of Gresham over alleged rule violations -- only to learn that Matthews had already gotten things cleared in advance. Lim has even run TV ads alleging rule violations (despite learning before airtime that Matthews was clean as a whistle.) From the PolitickerOR:

State House candidate Greg Matthews (D-Portland) is demanding that state Rep. John Lim (R-Gresham) pull a television ad that accuses Matthews of violating a city rule by using photos of him in his firefighter uniform in campaign literature.

Interim Gresham city attorney David Ris sent a letter to House Minority leader Bruce Hanna (R-Roseburg) on September 30 informing him that since the pictures that appear in the literature were taken before August 5, 2008, Matthews is not in violation of the law.

According to the Matthews campaign, Lim has continued to run an ad accusing Matthews of overlooking the law, even after city officials have said the literature does not break any rules. The Matthews campaign has requested that Lim take the advertising down and has hinted that Lim, who is running for his third term in the state House, may be violating Oregon law by making a “ false statement of material fact relating to [a] candidate, political committee or measure.”

  • This website is amazing. It's called PalinAsPresident.com - and, well, just check out. And be sure to click around a bit.

  • And here's two of the best TV spots of this election cycle. The first is from Suzanne VanOrman and the second is from Brad Avakian:

[Full disclosure: My firm built the website for Greg Matthews, but I speak only for myself.]

The palinaspresident site has gotten hit so much they had to move to another server:

http://www.palinaspresident.us/

I happened to see that one in an email last week. Funny stuff indeed.

Brad rocks. That's a great ad. In a rather stressful year of politics, he is a light-hearted, inspiring bright spot.

So I guess if you've ever watched Mixed Martial Arts, Suze VanOrman doesn't want your vote.

I once saw a man paralyzed from the neck down during a "brutal" hit in an NFL game.

I suppose VanOrman doesn't want the votes of people who enjoy football, either. It can be brutal, you know.

Ever see video of Kermit Washington and Rudy T? Guess fans of the NBA aren't for her either. What about LT's sack to Joe Theismann? Ouch. So much for NFL'ers too.

Slimbo, Suzanne said the fights (her opponenn's "day job") are brutal and are not her thing, never said she wants to ban them. Also said she loves Baseball, Football & Basketball. Don't put words in her mouth.

Glen,
Wow what an attempt to redirect. Slimbo did not accuse her of wanting to "ban" them. How in the world did you get there from here? Talk about putting words in someone's mouth. D'oh!

LOL

Oh and guess what. Matt's "day job" is running a gym. Might want to get that little fact straight as well.

But then again liberals never let a little thing like facts get in the way of a good anti-narrative.

yip yip

ps. Can you guys ask the VanOrman campaign to keep running this ad? Thanks.

Well, then. I thought I was going to vote 100 percent Democrat, but I guess I'll be making one exception.

I train in mixed martial arts. As do all my friends, most of whom lean left politically. This is ad is such an outrageous stereotype. Mixed martial arts is about discipline and respect, blending wrestling, boxing, jiu-jitsu, judo, taekwondo and more.

Despite what Ms. VanOrman apparnetly thinks, the sport draws its athletes and fans from all walks of life. Ms. VanOrman does not understand how many people who might have voted her that she insulted and smeared with this ad.

Oh, and, the ad calls Lindland a "cage fighter," but the clips clearly show him in a boxing-style ring, with ropes, not a cage. If that's an example of her attention to details, I don't want her working on a state budget.

Anyway, if by "one of the year's best ads," you mean, "an ad that took one voter who was going to vote all Democrat and got him to switch this particular vote to the GOP candidate," then yeah, this was super-effective.
