OR-SEN: Marc Delphine really, really loves hockey - and Ohio.

Many political candidates dream of going viral on the internet - with people all over the country taking note of what they're up to. Even more so for long-shot minor-party candidates.

But this isn't the attention that Marc Delphine wanted. Delphine is the libertarian candidate running for U.S. Senate here in Oregon.

The chatter on Twitter continues to percolate. He's been mentioned on ESPN and Yahoo Sports. WBNS-10 in Central Ohio covered the story.

You see, the logo on the left is, obviously, Marc Delphine's logo. The logo on the right? The NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

Delphine has removed it, and is apologetic - if not-exactly-forthcoming about how it happened. From the O's Brad Schmidt:

On the logo issue, Delphine said he thought a volunteer named "Aaron" designed it and donated it to his campaign. Delphine said he does not have any other information about "Aaron."

Delphine referred questions about "Aaron" to his Web site administrator, Jerry DeFoe. DeFoe said he does not know who created the logo and questioned whether it is worth pursuing.

"I'm certainly not deferring responsibility," Delphine said, while reiterating that he wasn't the one who created the logo. "I take full responsibility for this. This is my campaign."

As the blog DeadSpin wryly noted:

Senate Candidate Only Supports Government Takeover Of Hockey Logos Oregon Senate candidate Marc Delphine loves America so much that his web team co-opted the Columbus Blue Jackets logo and made it their own. Maybe Columbus can let us borrow their employee health plan too.

Kari the column width is cutting off the image of the Columbus Blue Jackets logo.

My favorite quote on this story is from the Yahoo Sports blog: "They were all like, 'What are you doing with their logo?' and I was like, 'I didn't make the logo!' and we pulled it immediately," said Delphine"

Wow, that level of high school confabulation will go a long way on the floor of the Senate. He's sure to get the surfer and inarticulate stoner vote now!

I'm sick of seeing the "star" in political logos. Everyone's got'em and isn't anything new.

Really he should have used Ottawa's logo, since he wants to be a Senator.

Let them use the logo. A right winger waving pro-Union civil war paraphernalia a sadly a pretty big step forward for those guys. Gotta support that development.
