Alaska Air awarded direct flight from Portland to D.C.

KOIN:

Portland was one of four cities selected to receive a direct flight to Washington D.C, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Monday. Alaska Airlines was chosen to provide the one round-trip flight per day to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The other cities were San Francisco, California, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Austin, Texas. “Greater access means greater economic opportunity for the region,” Oregon Senator Ron Wyden said in a statement. “Right now, the demand for flights from Oregon to Washington, D.C. far exceeds the current capacity, and with these increased flights between the two destinations will come greater economic growth for Oregon and the Pacific Northwest."No launch date has been announced for the nonstop service. -- Faris Tanyos
