Who will rule Portland's city hall?

KOIN:

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Oregon's primary is today, with thousands of last-minute voters flooding the ballot boxes Tuesday. The big draw in Portland is its race for city mayor. With 357 of 1,000 precincts reporting, the top three vote getters so far are Charlie Hales, then Jefferson Smith and then Eileen Brady. However, others on the board include the primary results for U.S. Presidential candidate. In early results Tuesday, incumbent President Barrack Obama had 93.48 percent of the Democrat vote -- with the remaining percentage filled by write-in candidates. Mitt Romney is winning the Republican side by a landslide, with more than 70 percent of the votes so-far counted. In pre-election coverage, voters said they've been waiting to see if there is any big differences between the candidates they're considering. But one thing they all wanted to see was a candidate who reached out to them.Several voters told KOIN Tuesday afternoon they finally made a decision based on whether the candidate sent them a mailing, knocked on their door, called them or had someone from the campaign contact them. Voters told KOIN that if a candidate doesn't reach out before getting their vote then they believe there's a good chance the politician will not reach out once in office.-- KOIN Reporter Lisa Balick contributed to this report from Northeast Portland.Related resource: Updated election results in real time
