Mayor Gets Testy Over Last Thursday

In this week's Mercury, we wrote about the building conflict between the Mayor's office and the Last Thursday art event. Mayor Sam Adams' biggest beef? The fact that the loosely organized group won't consider sponsorships or organized fundraising tactics to fund the event and eventually qualify for a street-closing permit. To fully get a grasp on the situation, we requested audio recordings from Last Thursday "stakeholder" meetings held in the Mayor's office earlier this year. While the majority of the discussion hashed out smaller, less volatile issues, Adams grows heated when former Last Thursday-er Rochelle Saliba (she quit after these meetings) refuses to accept sponsorships.
