President Obama Nominates Openly Gay Judge for Federal Court in Oregon

On Wednesday, Michael McShane, a Multnomah County Circuit Judge was nominated for a seat on the Federal District Court in Oregon. If confirmed, he will be the first openly gay federal judge in Oregon.

United States Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden both gave supportive statements of McShane’s judicial nomination. Senator Wyden said that the president’s nomination of McShane is an “excellent choice” and also stated that “Michael's background as a judge, a public defender and adjunct law professor makes this a well-earned appointment that I believe deserves quick confirmation by the Senate.”
