Police, fire unions withdraw Smith support
Portland mayoral candidate Jefferson Smith has lost support from two key backers.
The Portland Police Association and Portland Fire Fighters Association withdrew their endorsements of Smith Thursday afternoon. The announcement comes after Smith has faced 11 days of questions related to an incident involving a University of Oregon female student in 1993.
A terse statement from Portland Police Association President Daryl Turner didn’t mention the incident.
