Merkley to Senate Appropriations Committee
Oregon has gained some additional clout in Washington by way of Sen. Jeff Merkley's appointment to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The powerful committee makes decisions on how federal dollars will be distributed among states and projects. An appointment is a coveted spot.
As the Oregonian notes, Merkley is the first Oregonian to serve on the House or Senate money committees since Mark Hatfield retired in 1996.
