Being a Boy Scout made a tremendous difference in my life, teaching me the value of community service and leadership, and creating friendships that endure to this day. When I became an Eagle Scout, I took an oath to fulfill the Eagle Scout Challenge - which includes these words: The Eagle stands as protector of the weak and helpless. He aids and comforts the unfortunate and the oppressed. He upholds the rights of others while defending his own.

That’s why I’m so disappointed that the Boy Scouts of America has a policy that excludes gay Scouts and Scout Leaders from participating. Please join me, Senator Sherrod Brown, and Scouts for Equality: Sign our letter at TellTheBoyScouts.com asking the Boy Scouts of America to adopt inclusive membership and leadership policies - for both Scouts and Scout Leaders: http://www.telltheboyscouts.com/... The Boy Scouts of America can change these discriminatory policies at their upcoming national meeting, starting May 22nd. Right now, we’re told that they are considering a change to the ban on gay Scouts, while keeping the unacceptable ban on gay Scout Leaders. As Eagle Scouts, Senator Brown and I know the value of Scouting - it changed our lives. No one should be denied that experience.
