Less than a year later, Rudy Crew leaves post as state's top schools official

Rudy Crew, the hand-picked leader brought in to implement Gov. John Kitzhaber's overhaul of the state's education system, has accepted the job as president of Medgar Evers College in New York City.

Crew started his work in Oregon less than a year ago. His three-year contract paid him $280,000 annually.

His job — chief education officer – was created in 2011, as part of the education-reform package championed by Kitzhaber and passed by the Legislature.
