Kitzhaber submits resignation, Brown to become Oregon governor

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has become the state's first governor to resign in 52 years.

While this story is developing, Kitzhaber has submitted his resignation, effective Feb. 18, 2015. Democratic leaders in the Oregon House and Senate, including Senate President Peter Courtney, advised advised the governor to resign. Oregon Treasurer Ted Wheeler also called on Kitzhaber to step down.
