The Coalition for a Liveable Future, a Portland nonprofit, is closing its doors, the group announced today.

"After 21 years working across disciplines to create a more equitable and sustainable region, the Coalition for a Livable Future will be closing our doors at the end of June," the group said in a statement. "While it wasn’t an easy call to make, the real story is the CLF successes that are felt throughout the Portland region and the lasting impact of our work moving forward."

Under the direction of executive director Maura Gross, CLF was a key part of the opposition to the Columbia River Crossing Project, the proposed $3.2 billion highway, bridge and lightrail project between Portland and Vancouver, Wash.

After a decade of planning and preparation, that project died in the Oregon Legislature last year, after economist Joe Cortright effectively shot down the project's unrealistic traffic and toll revenue projections, and groups including CLF applied continual political pressure.

Gross says she will spend the next couple of months transitioning CLF's Regional Equity Atlas to another organization before looking for her next professional opportunity.
