Portland debate features four Republican candidates for governor

Dudley, the former Trail Blazer basketball center, offered himself as the calm middle-of-the-roader who would bring a political outsider's touch to Salem. Alley emphasized his experience as a business executive, which he said is sorely needed in a state that has such trouble with unemployment.

Tax activist Bill Sizemore portrayed himself as the rugged warrior in a years-long battle with public employee unions, which he said now control the state. And former state Rep. John Lim referred frequently to his status as the oldest candidate (age 74) who brings a wealth of "life experience" as well as actual legislative experience.
