Oregon House passes bottle bill update

The House on Wednesday passed a measure aimed at modernizing the state's landmark bottle bill, the container-deposit legislation first passed in Oregon in 1971. HB 3145, passed by a 47 to 12 margin, would add containers for most juice, tea and sports/energy drinks to the list of containers that can be recycled at redemption centers for a small refund. The measure would take affect no later than Jan. 1, 2017. It also includes incentives to keep the redemption rate high.
