Rep. Wu to resign with $343K left in campaign coffers

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Congressman David Wu has about $343,000 in his campaign coffers.He plans to resign, but he can't pocket the cash.Facing reports of scandal, the seven-term Democrat announced this week he will resign when a resolution is reached on the debate over whether to raise the U.S. debt limit.Mary Boyle of the nonprofit watchdog group Common Cause says Wu can give the campaign money to other political campaigns, give it to charity or return it to donors. He is restricted only from spending it on himself.Wu spokesman Erik Dorey said he knew of no plans for the campaign treasury.Several donors to Wu's campaign declined to comment or hung up when reached by The Associated Press by telephone on Friday.
