Mayor Adams: PSU to get urban renewal dollars

Portland Business Journal:

At his annual State of the City address on Friday, Portland Mayor Sam Adams announced a deal between the city of Portland and Multnomah County to create the Education District urban renewal area around Portland State University.

If approved by City Council, the deal could mean more than $100 million for development around the PSU campus.

PSU officials say urban renewal money is critical for the university's effort to keep pace with its rapid growth.

Some oppose urban renewal on the grounds that it takes money away from schools and other essential public services...
