Did Kerry meet with Neil?

Jack Bogdanski

The rumor du jour is that the two of them had a talk last Friday night here in Portland.

To me, that would be a very, very dumb move on JFK Lite's part.

Is Blue Oregon's new slogan going to be "all the rumors that are fit to print?" It could be true or it could be false, but let's go ahead and put the rumor out there just to make people think about it. That's almost as good as if it happened.

This has actually gotten past the rumor stage. It was on several media outlets out here today, including a very vague sort-of-denial by the Oregon head of the Kerry campaign. Our good buddy Lars Larson says he has witnesses, unimpeachable sources, etc. If Neil Goldschmidt is still serving as (or posing as) the Democratic Party power broker in Oregon, I think it's worth talking about.

I personally doubt Kerry had any kind of meaningful conversations with Neil. Kerry is just not that stupid. In the Big O this morning, Jonathon Nicholas wrote (I just can't bring myself to call his column "reporting") that a Kerry campaign spokesman said that Kerry did not say anything more than hi to Neil as he walked by his table.

However, what the f@#$ was Neil even doing being at El Gaucho at the same time as Kerry??

  • (Show?)

    Niel Schmiel!

Walking past Niel at a dinner table at the El Gaucho doesn't mean a meeting took place. Sounds like the Swift Boaters for Bush. I was on the same river as John Kerry but I wasn't in his boat. I walked by Niel's table but I didn't sit down.

However, Paulie, I still ask the question, why was Neil even there? Coincidence? I hope so. But Neil, not so long ago, was the godfather of the Democratic Party in Oregon. I doubt that Kerry picking El Gaucho was a spontaneous choice. Campaign visits are planned down to the minute.

And just to clarify my point. I honestly don't believe Kerry had anything to do with this and I do believe all he did was walk past Neil's table.

My complaint is Neil showing up (being invited by someone???) when his ugly past could even remotely taint Kerry's campaign in such a critical election.

Go back to your vineyard that you bought by cashing in on your connections, Neil. Your time is over.

Our good buddy Lars Larson says he has witnesses, unimpeachable sources, etc.

Oh, well, argument over then, obviously.

  • (Show?)

If Lars says it, it must be true. Lars also notes that this means JK has a soft spot for child molesters. Hard hitting, investigative journalism right there folks.

    Um...El Gaucho?

Lars loves that place. He did ads for the place on his radio show (as in, "I LOVE El Gaucho"). The eyewitness or unimpeachable source might well have been HIM. Does that mean El Gaucho or Lars supports child molesters?

It is remotely possible that Goldshmidt was there to eat, and Kerry showed up. I don't think you need a reservation to get into the El.

    Just a few random thoughts.

    Just a few random thoughts.

Coincidentally, that's the maximum mental activity level of Lars.

I just tried to sign up for Lars' newsletter. The form field for email address is two characters two short for my address. Oh, well.

Let me make sure I understand the facts…..

You have a rumor with no proof.

You have a denial from the people supposedly involved.

Your only source is Lars Larson.

And you think this is worth talking about because the rumor Lars Larson is spreading means Goldschmidt might be a secret powerbroker because he might have ate dinner at a restaurant that Kerry might have ate at?

Wrong Chuck! It is not just a rumor (at least in a certain sense). As much as I dislike calling it reporting, Jonathon Nicholas "reported" in his column this morning that Goldschmidt was there at El Gaucho with a Kerry campaign representative confirming that fact as well as denying any extended conversations.

But come on...you have to know that every campaign visit is scheduled down to the minute. Kerry even got up and "jammed" with the band at El Gaucho. It was just coincidence that Goldschmidt was there that night????

Again, I am not supporting the rumor that an extended conversation did occur (this was, in fact, denied by the Kerry campaign). But what the he!! was Goldschmidt doing there that night???

  • (Show?)

This is just all so much crap.

  • (Show?)

Neil G. is scum. I have no doubt he was alerted to the Kerry dinner at El Gaucho, and he invited himself. He still digs himself as the power broker of Oregon. Kerry at a minimum stopped by to kiss his ring. That's every bit as newsworthy as it is disgusting.

O.K., here's a question- so what if Goldie was meeting with someone on Kerry's campaign? They were probably old friends going way back and Kerry worker was worried and bothered about ole Goldie's problems. When you're on the road, you tend to look up everyone you have ever known when you're in their city. And if you can't get away from work, you invite them to work. I've done this exact thing when on tour, inviting felon friends backstage so I could see them.
