Jack Roberts: Oregon Supreme Court?

JackrobertsOver at NW Republican, they're reporting that Jack Roberts is considering a run for the Oregon Supreme Court. In 2002, Jack - a former GOP labor commissioner - also ran for Governor against Kevin Mannix and Ron Saxton.

Jack's been a regular blog commenter - mostly at Jack Bog's Blog and sometimes here at BlueOregon.

Yes, and the rumor in the comments is that he'll be up against Hardy Myers.... Anyone know anything about that?

ohmygosh! You mean we might have a real campaign and elect a supreme court justice?

If that is true, then we could have some very interesting examinations of which is serious enough to fill the shoes of W.Carson. Supreme Court campaigns tend not to be about particular issues as much as the temperment of the person running. Years ago when a runoff led to Ed Fadeley vs. Vern Cook, I remember people saying they disagreed with Ed but he made more sense than Vern.

Of course, if it was Hardy - he'd be leaving the AG's office early.

    Nice 'doo!

Uh, no...Roberts has been given a bye by scardy-cat dems who just hope, hope, hope that he's really, at heart, a swell egg.

    Oh...you mean OREGON's Supreme Court?

    Nevermind. (Goodbye Maxwell Smart.)

I'm probably out of the left side of the mainstream (or is it the mainstream of the left? whatever) on this one, but a Roberts/Myers choice would certainly leave me feeling a little more comfortable than many other matchups. The fact is, we've had far too many elections where the choices amount to your guy or jumping off a cliff.

My only comment about this whole topic is that someone finally runs a picture that doesn't make me look like the bouncer in a cheap strip joint and all I get is a bunch of crap about it.

  • (Show?)

Well there goes the bouncer-in-a-cheap-strip-joint vote!

  • (Show?)

Hey, what's wrong with bouncers? Or strip joints?!

  • (Show?)

Jack didn't slam strip joints, just cheap strip joints. Now that's what I call a moderate Republican.

  • (Show?)

And remember, cheap strip joints are now fully constitutionally protected!

I mean, seriously, Jack's photo should make Donaldson cream his pants.

David Reinhard sure creamed his pants over Roberts on sunday. Get a load of his editorial, and my response.

Eugene Hallman, from Pendleton, has already announced for the Oregon Supreme Court seat. He has some quality people helping with his campaign, and he is worthy of strong consideration by devotees of BlueOregon.

Democrats and others who care about the Supreme Court will need to be up to speed on the candidates and actively participate in a grassroots way to get the word out. I suspect that the right will run a strong, stealth campaign using the network that fights against abortion rights and civil rights for same gender couples.

Is it true that Jack Roberts campaigned to abolish BOLI in retaliation for a BOLI complaint against the Sambo's restaurant? I know he campaigned to end BOLI. I'm not sure about his affiliation with Sambo's.
