Top of the First

Mari Margil

It's not fair, really.  Unlike sports teams, elected officials don't get to start each new year with a clean slate.

Take the Red Sox.  At the time of this writing they're tied for first in their division.  Deep into Week 1 of the 2006 season, '05 but a memory, and it's pretty clear they're going all the way this year.

But even in baseball, come All Star time, or even earlier, many players will have their own records to deal with.  But they can turn it around, even mid-season.  As can our electeds.

So many opportunities to make change, from Iraq, global warming, Katrina, to health care...  But you gotta come to play.

Never met either of you, and I'm sure you're nice folks. But the YANKEES will win it all this year!!! Write it down. See you in October. :)

If the Yanks aren't going to win it (and they are), then the Sox are certainly not the ones to do it instead. Boston will fade with the coming of August, as they always do. Even when they won it all, they fell apart like an origami bicycle when the leaves turned.

The Red Sox can no longer be libeled as August chokers, nor can the Yanks claim perpetual dominance. Who won the last series?

    Sox, Sox, Sox!
