Register Republicans - $5 each!
Kari Chisholm
A friend just passed along this "job" posting that just appeared on CraigsList.com:
A petition and voter registration coordinater seeks motivated individuals to collect republican voter registrations. We are paying $5.00 per voter registration card. You must be 18yrs. of age or older and must be a citizen of the U.S. who is registered or is eligible to register to vote. All payable voter cards must be filled out correctly and completely, also, voters must register republican. Great for part-time extra income or full-time. No designated work area. Colleges(students ask your friends), grocery stores, Wal Marts, ect. are great places to find oppurtune voters. Easy $15-$25hrly in high traffic areas. Most successful are friendly unintimidated people. Any amount will be accepted. Voter cards must be handed in or mailed to arrive within 48hrs. of completion. Contact Blake Jackson: (858)717-2137
I wonder what happens to Democratic voter registration cards? I also wonder how they're planning on preventing bogus registrations?
I think Blake Jackson needs a phone call or two.

Considering this is almost certainly a fake, I'm guessing nothing happens to ANY of the registration cards, R or D.

As I like to say, I don't speak for the Secretary of State, but he's been advocating this practice be outloawed for years and introduces legislation to prevent it during the last session.

Fake or not, it isn't up anymore.

That's supposed to be "outlawed" and "introduced." Maybe my lack of writing skill is the reason I don't speak for him...?

I can tell you that two years ago we found a lot of cards coming into the Mult Co Elections office that appeared to be bogus. The only change on them? People's registration had been changed to R. Many of the cards appeared to have been written in the same handwriting.
So many of these showed up that, if I remember correctly, there was a decision to not input those in which the only change was in party registration since it did not affect the general election.
I wouldn't put it past someone that this was indeed real-- it just wasn't supposed to be quite so public (we weren't supposed to know). Don't you remember the controversy two years ago about Dem registrations being thrown in the trash?

When I've done registration I've always been told that it was illegal to cherry pick the registrations based on party. Doesn't this qualify?

I did a Google and a reverse lookup. The guy is based in Oceanside, has ads on other lists, and the number is a cell phone.
Doesn't look fake to me..........

Oceanside, as in California? There's no Blake Jackson registered as an Oregon voter.

So how is this legal? Is this legal?
(I guess if lying to Congress so that they authorize your phony, war-crime-laden war is legal, then this probably is, too. Wait, did I just write that?)

Something identical to this was going on last cycle in several counties, including Union and Umatilla, and if I remember right, southern Oregon. A former staffer of the Arizona GOP was running the outfit, and I remember seeing news stories about this in Pennsylvania, West Virginia it.

I seem to be having the same problem as Jesse.
