Five Saturdays left; what are you doing this weekend?

What are you doing this weekend?

With only five Saturdays left until the election (and less than that before ballots arrive), it's long past time to start committing to some activism.

Campaigns, share your opportunities for the weekend. Let's turn off the computers, and go hit some doors.

Who can pass up Legends of the Fall? And more importantly, who can pass up the massive downtown Bus party afterwards? Most important of all, who can pass up all of those fixins?

  • (Show?)

Downtown? I thought the party was in North Portland, on Williams?

We're throwing an Every Voter Counts rally Saturday afternoon with Congressman Earl Blumenauer. It starts at noon and will be at the DPO Headquarters ("Donkey Stable") at 232 NE 9th, Portland.

Afterwards, those who can will either be going out to canvass for the governor or staying to phone bank. We have 22,000 voter contacts to make each week, and it's going to take all of us here in Multnomah County giving os our time to ensure Kulongoski is re-elected.

If you can't come out Saturday, we're also phone banking every Sunday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and canvassing every Sat & Sun (Sat 10-2, Sun 1-5). Can't phone bank or canvass? We need people to do data entry (it's a barcode system), help put together canvass kits on Fridays & Saturdays, and more.

We also are in need of food, drinks, and other items for our volunteers as well as donations to help fund our election activities.

Call 503-239-VOTE or stop by 232 NE 9th to find out more and to get involved. You can also pick up bumper stickers and yard signs at the Donkey Stable as well.

Excellent work, Kari. I was testing you. Now that you passed with flying colors, I deem you qualified to go out into the world and publish a heavily-trafficked blog and build websites for prominent campaigns. Good luck!

(Heh. My bad. I appreciate the eagle eye. The party is indeed in North Portland.)

I thought I'd do something a little different than the good ol' GOTV for the weekend.

How about a multicultural carnival in front of Saxton's headquarters replete w/ a civil rights "info booth", a give away of Spike Lee DVD's (esp. "Get on the Bus" and "DTRT"), and a generous hand-out of pro-xenophobic bumper stickers("White Always Has the Right-of-Way!--OLE!")for Saxton supporters to display on their SUV's.
