Forget Bad Larry. Meet Good Larry.

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

Our neighbors to the East are going crazy on the blogs (see LeftyBlogs Idaho) -- after all, how often does a gay-bashing conservative Republican U.S. Senator turn out to be the very bogeyman that he was trying to scare people about?

And while we're all gossiping about the Interminable Weirdness of Bad Larry (what kind of idiot Senator doesn't hire a lawyer when he's been arrested, especially for what he calls a "misunderstanding")... take a few moments and introduce yourself to Good Larry.

A former Democratic congressman, Larry LaRocco, is running for the U.S. Senate. Here's a recent video from his "Working for the Senate" campaign in which he does regular jobs that Idahoans do.

And while we should be saving most of our pennies for Oregonians, if Larry LaRocco seems like your kinda U.S. Senator, find a few bucks and pitch 'em his way. After all, he went to college right here in Oregon (at the University of Portland.)

And now that it looks certain that Bad Larry won't be running for re-election, Good Larry is going to need all the help he can get. Learn more at LaRoccoForSenate.com.

Besides, wouldn't it be great to flip two U.S. Senate seats in the Northwest from Red to Blue?

    Thanks for the mention!

Larry L will be blogging live in the diaries at Daily Kos on Wednesday, August 29, for about an hour starting at 11 a.m. Pacific. Stop by if you can.

    Let's turn the Northwest blue.

I just sent Good Larry a contribution. Thanks for the heads-up, Kari!

(FYI, everyone, Julie Fanselow is the netroots organizer for Larry LaRocco.)

I was fortunate enough to have met Larry recently when he was in Portland for a reunion at the Un. of Portland. He and his wife are just delightful people with a progressive bent and a strong Idaho background. He is also well connected with the netroots. Although Idaho is a tough nut to crack, we should keep in mind that it is sandwiched between Montana and Washington/Oregon and Montana now has two Democratic Senators and a Democratic Governor.

It will be great if Larry LaRocco can help ease our eastern neighbor back into the nation from its stint in bizzaro-world. There are definite signs that the state is coming around and finally rejecting the failed ideology of the modern "conservative" movement which has proven an unmitigated disaster on every front.

Idaho deserves better, as does the nation, and Larry LaRocco would most certainly represent a better opportunity for Idaho and the nation.

I assume y'all dont have much problem with the Idaho senator, even if he was getting his jollies in a restroom in Minnesota. I mean, no one had a problem with a certain president boffing interns in the oval office, right? You kinda need to be consistent,,,,,ugh, no, forgot, this is the liberal land of blue oregon!!

Having sex with an intern is not illegal.

But let me get this straight (pun noted) ...a closeted head-case who is publicly pushing antigay policies and is a member of the 'we hate fags party' while cruising for anonymous sex is "consistent"...?

That must be more of that GOP logic that also says war is peace, more death and destruction is proof our polices are working, that cutting taxes increases revenue and a laundry list of failed ideology going back decades.

    Correction:

...while cruising for anonymous sex in a public men's room at an airport is "consistent"...?

Methinks the good Senator is every bit as confused as dddave.

His statement this afternoon basically consisted of "I'm not gay, and I never was."

But who the hell cares whether he's gay or not?

The problem is staring through a crack in a bathroom stall at someone for two minutes. The problem is pushing your foot so far under the stall as to make contact with the other person's foot. The problem is trying to trade on his position as a U.S. Senator to get out of trouble, an option not available to the vast majority of perverted, aggressive bathroom cruising freaks.

Just like Foley and Haggart, gayness really has nothing to do with it. It's creepy, uninvited overtures mixed in with abuse of power that freaks me out.

Don't forget the whole thing about swearing under oath that you are guilty of the charge a month after the incident occurred, and somehow not telling your wife about any of it. Yet, that's credible.

Oh, and in today's presser, he claimed he didn't retain counsel, yet a week after he was first arrested, he appeared at the police station all irate and agitated about getting information about the prosecutor who would be handling the case so he could get that info for his attorney (go to page 6 in this PDF of the arrest/incident report).

I'll tell you why he didn't get counsel after he talked to counsel 6 days later about what he needed counseling about. K. Rove gamed out the whole scenario and told him to go it alone without "offical" counsel so that he could say later, under oath without telling a lie, that he didn't know what he was doing cuz he had no counsel. Wham...overturned on appeal, record expunged and life goes on after a couple of news cycles. At least his lobby career with be somewhat intact, al la "The Hammer," Texas style. Indeed, this is very Rovish.
