Put your money where your mouth is.

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

On Sunday, September 30, the third quarter FEC fundraising period will come to a close. Shortly after that, we'll find out just how much money was raised by Gordon Smith's special interest friends - and how much was raised by his Democratic challengers, Jeff Merkley and Steve Novick.

There's a long road ahead of us before the Pendleton Pea Prince is sent back to his polluting produce packaging plant -- but it's time that BlueOregon readers stand up and be counted.

If you're ready to end Gordon Smith's career in the U.S. Senate, send a contribution - to Jeff Merkley, to Steve Novick, or even to the Democratic Nominee Fund (held in escrow until after the primary.)

It's less important to me who you donate to, or how much you donate. We need to show the nation that progressive Oregonians are ready to get the job done. That we're ready to put our money where our mouth is.

So, buddy, can you spare a ten-spot?

Make a donation right now.

(And just to make it super-convenient, we've added a little box on the left sidebar - so you can donate anytime the mood hits you. Or whenever a right-wing troll wanders over here to throw stones.)

Does anyone know whether Wyden has made a contribution to Merkley or Novick?

I remember Josh Kardon (wyden's chief of staff) said that Smith had maxed out his contribution to Wyden's opponent last time around -- shouldn't we expect Ron to return the favor here?

I checked opensecrets.org and it does not appear that Wyden has made any contributions in the 2008 cycle.

Of course, the two campaigns haven't yet reported any contributions made since July 1. That's the whole point of the Q3 reporting deadline.

Don't want to be accused of micro-needling, but there's some pop psychology (and science behind it?) that claims the first name on a list has an advantage. Will Novick get some time on top as well? I mean, Merkley already has the heavy handed support of Chuck Schumer and the DSCC. (Personally, i think Candy Neville should get the same courtesy.) Anything Blue0 could do to foster fairness...

And how would the "Democratic Nominee" fund help either candidate in the primary, much less for this quarter's filings? (Or is Blue0 simply confident that DC's choice will be OR's choice come May - sort of a backdoor support for Mandate's Merkely Machine?)

Candy Neville is personna nongrata around here. A "fringe" candidate.

EBT... it's in alpha order. And the nominee fund is for people who don't want to choose in the primary, but want to donate now to whichever one gets the nod.

Backbeat... Candy Neville (sp?) doesn't have an ActBlue account, which is your first and biggest sign that she's not a serious candidate. Can't even be bothered to sign up for a free account at a website where people can give her money.

Come on, Thom. Give it a rest.

Good work, Kari -- including Steve in the fund raising badge (whatever his position) should help soothe some sore elbows around here.

Sorry, Ben. I read through the entire Blue0 FAQ looking for how much critique one is allowed to offer here... Looks like i've upset you. That wasn't my intent.

First Novick has the DSCC against him. Now it's the entire Alphabet. Go figure...

I always felt I had an unfair advantage by virtue of my last name. Once, though, there was this kid in grade school who's last name was Aaron--man, I hated that kid.

On the point of the thread, this is also relevant to national candidates, too. Obama and Edwards (I orient their names according to MY preference) could really use even a token of support--twenty bucks, a hundred, whatever. It both helps in the fight to stay in the race, but it also gives voters some sense of the level of support these candidates have when more small donors chip in.
