Thanks to you, Darcy Burner won the Democratic primary

Darcyburner2Well, not exactly. Washington's primary election isn't until September August 2008. But after the huge outpouring of support from the netroots - including here at BlueOregon - her primary opponent has dropped out, specifically citing what you did.

From the Seattle Times:

Just two months after declaring his candidacy for Congress, state Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Bellevue, announced today that he is withdrawing from the race.

Tom was facing a primary election contest against Darcy Burner, who lost against incumbent Republican Rep. Dave Reichert in 2006. Reichert serves in the 8th Congressional District, which represents eastern King and Pierce counties.

Burner is seeking a rematch next year, and her persistent campaigning and aggressive fundraising made it difficult for Tom to gain traction.

"Our fundraising was going great, but Darcy Burner's campaign has been phenomenal," Tom said. "Darcy has over 3,200 contributors, an incredible statement to her broad base of support."

Of course, that just means that Darcy gets to focus full-time on defeating Congressman Dave Reichert, the Bush-loving cretin that represents Washington's 8th District. So if you haven't chipped in a ten-spot for Darcy, do it now. George Bush already helped Reichert raise some $500,000 last month.

Much as Kari and I love contested primaries, I am happy for Darcy. I met her at the Yearly Kos conference a few weeks back and she's very impressive. And of course she was beloved there. I am ashamed to say that I have not sent her any money yet, but I'll do it right now!

Just a note that Washington's primary is now in August, not September.

Unfortunately Darcy and her campaign staff have declined to elaborate on my question about how it was possible for a military retiree and WEA member could possibly run up huge health care bills for a family member. Until she at least acknowledges the question there will be no support from here.
